(Hint: Most of these health tips are in your head…)
1. Be Specific
Lets face it, most resolutions are pretty general, you want to lose weight, be more productive, reduce your debt. These are great places to start but if you really want to gain head way and see real results the key is to be specific about what it is you want.
Instead of just wanting to lose weight, decide how much weight you want to lose and how you’ll do it. Lets just say I need to lose 25 lbs and I will achieve this by cutting out refined sugars and carbohydrates and going for a walk every day. If your goals have to do with business, being specific is even more paramount. How will you generate more income? Where can you improve your productivity? It’s vital to ask yourself these questions and have a plan in place so that you don’t set yourself up for failure.
A few ideas you could put into action to improve your health in 2015 would be to implement some of the tips that we talked about in the article on 5 ways to boost energy and productivity.
It’s the daily actions that will eventually add up to a huge change in your overall health and vitality.
2. Create a Vision Board
A vision board is a visual representation of your goals. Human beings are incredibly perceptive to our environments. When we see images of a desired outcome we’re more likely to set the stage to achieve what those images represent in our lives. Your vision board should live somewhere you will see it every day, an office or a bedroom are usually good places.
Creating your vision board is really fun. First find all the inspiring photos you can that represent your goals and paste them onto a large poster board. Magazines, online and newspapers are all great sources to find pictures. You can also incorporate words and quotes which are in alignment with your vision.
What does success look like to you? Find the images that represent your version of the perfect life and incorporate them into your vision board.
3. Strive Within Reason
Anything is possible but your strategy for amazing health and prosperity isn’t the place to add the 3 wishes you want to ask your magic genie. Refrain from being too extreme in your goal setting, if your goal is to get rid of your debilitating back pain, know that it’s possible but it won’t happen over night.
That being said, it’s okay to push the boundaries a little bit as long as you have a solid plan of action, see step 1. A lot of can be achieved in one year but it’s best to focus on a few things instead of 50. Make your resolutions and goals within reason and you’ll have a higher chance of attaining them.
4. Keep it Simple
This point may seem counter-intuitive to being specific but keeping things simple and organized leads to heightened accessibility of your goals. Make your resolutions and then follow in the footsteps of St. Nick and check your list twice. Revising your goals whittles away the unnecessary and leaves only those goals that you feel are of the highest priority.
Simplicity is at the root of all successful endeavors, when we over complicate things they get muddled and we become overwhelmed. Following the KISS method- Keep it Simple Silly is an equation for success.
An example of KISS method in action is eliminating inflammatory foods to help with joint pain. Clean out the fridge and cupboard of any refined sugar or refined carbohydrates as these foods can exacerbate pain and stiffness.
5. Make an Action Plan
Don’t jump into the deep end without knowing how to swim. When you have a solid plan, execution is the least of your work. The real brain power goes into forming a good plan and with enough forethought, making it happen will come easily. Any good plan should have 3 parts to it.
The Vision
The first step is creating a broad vision of what the accomplishment of your goal will look like. This is in alignment with being specific, you want to have a detailed picture in mind of how exactly your life will change once you’ve succeeded in following through with your resolutions. If it’s more productivity, picture your organized workspace, if it’s a slim and trim body, see yourself with a six-pack.
The Bi-Weekly Breakthrough
Breaking tasks into bi-weekly sections helps you to stay on track, our minds don’t work in an annual sequence. When we see results every 2 weeks, even if they’re minimal, it’s those results that add up to make the grand finale. Set up some goals to complete every 2 weeks, full fill them and then revise them as necessary.
The Daily Deeds
It’s our daily habits that make or break our capacity to accomplish anything. It’s just so easy to waste the days away and accomplish nothing. Our world is filled with distractions so remember to make daily achievable goals to help you remain focused. In the end it’s the little things that count.
6. Make it Happen in the Present
Even more important than daily deeds is remaining present in the moment. Don’t let the past sweep you away from the present and don’t let the future paralyze you with the question, what if?
Remember in every moment you have a choice, to remain the same and adhere to old patterns, or to forge new ones and achieve your dreams, one breath at a time. You feel yourself slumping into your old ways, you straighten that spine and realign. Don’t beat yourself up for mistakes, it’s so easy to fall back into old patterns but the power of change lies in your awareness to get back on the horse.
The thing with successful goals, is they also have to be actions, remaining present keeps you focused on what you need to do in the moment. If you happen to falter, this presence also helps bring you back to the moment so that it’s easier to keep going on your path.
7. Hone in on What’s Most Important
Prioritization is a skill, it enables you to zero in on things you’ll need in order to achieve anything. Health is a great example, without good health we can’t be productive, we lack the focus we need to find success in life, it’s harder to simply get up in the morning and start the day with a positive attitude. Maybe money is your focus, figure out the reasons why? What exactly will more money bring you in other realms? Is it more important than building relationships? Ask the right questions and the answers will come.
8. Be Grateful for What You Already Have
Gratitude for what we’ve already been given is crucial if you ever want more! So often we disregard what we’ve been given, yet we expect more. Assuming this standpoint will never get you ahead, you’ll never find satisfaction because you’ll always want more. Don’t take advantage of the health issues you aren’t dealing with.
Before writing down your New Years resolutions, make a list of everything you’re grateful for. There’s always something to be grateful for, even if it’s clean water, access to a library, simple necessities that not everyone has. Write it all out, exaggerate it, and then proceed with creating your super health goals.
9. Visualize
Having a vision board is one thing, but the true power of visualization comes from the mind. Use your imagination to create an alternate reality of what your life would be like if you were to achieve all of your health goals. How amazing would you feel, you would get so much more done if your body were as spry as your mind. How different would things be in your life if all your dreams were realized.
Get comfortable, sit and breathe, close your eyes and just imagine the possibilities. Take awhile to get comfortable with this vision of your future. This visualization will set the foundation for all that you want to achieve, now you can refer to this moment anytime your willpower strays from its path.
See yourself pain free, active and accomplished! You can achieve this vision with the right techniques.
10. Reward Yourself for a Job Well Done
Changing habits isn’t easy, it takes a lot of dedication and motivation. You’ll slip up and that’s okay, go easy on yourself. When you do remain steadfast and meet intermediary goals, like your bi-weekly achievements, give yourself a little present. One study done showed successful resolvers rewarded themselves for their small achievements along the way to a bigger goal. Don’t be afraid to eat a brownie if you’ve done the work of losing 5 pounds.
The study also showed that people who didn’t criticize themselves were more likely to achieve their resolutions. It’s easy to get down on yourself when you make a mistake but when you refrain from the inner guilt trip you’re more capable of getting back up after you fall down.
“Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It’s quite simple, really: Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn’t at all. You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it, so go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember that’s where you will find success.” Thomas J. Watson
Implement these simple techniques right away and any time that you set goals!
It’ll help you achieve super health and business success in 2015 and beyond!
